The stylus is an input device used with a |graphics tablet|. It usually is attached to it with a cable, though some are wireless. Shaped like a common pen, it houses sensors which detect electronics under the surface of the tablet. This allows the position of the stylus to be translated to a ~cursor~ location on-screen. Newer units add the ability to sense the pressure applied to the stylus. This lets artists simulate a variety of different brush strokes. The stylus is preferred by graphic artists because of the similarity to standard artistic tools like the brush or pen.
